Opening of Greenwood soybean oil mill delayed until March
GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) – The planned opening of a soybean oil mill has been delayed until March, but the plant’s 55-person workforce remains on the job.
John Coleman, president of Express Grain Oil Mill, tells The Greenwood Commonwealth that construction has suffered delays. Also, he says changing the plant over from exclusively processing cottonseed to soybean extraction has taken longer than expected.
Coleman says the company bored a new water well – essential for processing soybean seeds – after the previous well failed.
Express Grain bought the mill and a storage facility in Minter City last year.
The company is storing about 4 million bushels of soybeans from the 2015 harvest, giving it a steady supply to work with. Coleman says the plant could process as many as 10 million bushels annually.
