Man charged in Muslim attack plot to undergo mental testing
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – A judge has ruled that a Sequatchie County man accused of planning an assault on a small Muslim community in New York has to report for mental health testing.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that during a motion hearing Tuesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Lee agreed with government prosecutors that 64-year-old Robert Doggart needs to undergo a 45-day forensic evaluation for competency and insanity.
Authorities believe Doggart spent months plotting an assault on a Muslim community outside Hancock, New York. He was arrested in April and pleaded not guilty to one charge of solicitation to commit a civil rights violation. He’s been on house arrest ever since.
Doggart’s daughter, Terri Lee, testified Tuesday that her father has shown symptoms of mental illness for her entire life.
