Residents flock to grocery stores in preparation for winter storm
JACKSON, Tenn — Shoppers hit crowded grocery stores Thursday night to get some last minute items before a winter storm is expected to hit the area.
y to beat the jump, but it’s awful crowded in there,” Wade Beshiers told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News in the parking lot of Jackson’s south Walmart. “Oh its pretty bad. About as bad as I’ve seen it in a long time.”
“It could be a major snow storm, so a lot of heavy snow and for a long period of time,” shopper Dennis Rowland said. “I’m just gonna try to just stay in if I can. Not be on the roads.”
Those WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News spoke with said making sure to get the essentials just in case of an extended stay at home is a must.
“We got bread, pizza, just stuff to much on for the next couple of days,” Heather Pollock said. “Tomorrow it’s supposed to be really bad so we’re trying to get everything done tonight.”
While residents are out and about tonight, they said Friday, they will be staying put.
“It’s very dangerous. I even had some trouble Wednesday morning when we had just a little bit of the freezing rain and sleet,” Rowland said. “I did slide a few times and saw some wrecks.”
TDOT said there will be a total of 171 trucks out on roads prepared to clear major roads of snow and ice, and it plans to officially start clearing roads Friday between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.
