Harrison County clerk visits schools to register teen voters

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – A total of 193 students registered to vote after Harrison County’s new circuit clerk spoke to nearly 300 seniors at Harrison Central High School.

Connie Ladner tells The Sun Herald it was her second visit on a high school campus Thursday to educate seniors on the voting process since she took office Jan. 4. Last week, she visited Long Beach High, where about 70 students registered to vote.

She and her deputy clerks plan to visit other area high schools.

Ladner said her campus meetings aim to inform students of the deadline to register to vote, election dates and how to vote by absentee ballot if they will be leaving for college.

Ladner worked for years under former Circuit Clerk Gayle Parker, who retired after 23 years in office.
