Northwest TN Counties cope with weather

TRENTON, Tenn — Residents in Gibson County worked to clear pathways Friday afternoon after inches of snow cover the streets.

Like Kenton Erven, who was shoveling snow on the sidewalk in Trenton and said he is just enjoying being outside during the wintry weather.

HeaviestLocalSnow“It’s pretty awesome we got this because we haven’t gotten snow in a while. I thought we weren’t gonna get it,” Erven said.

“The last time we had it was that ice storm, other than that this is the most we done had in a long time,” Trenton resident Lendell Clark Jr. said while walking with his daughter and cousin Friday afternoon.

Gibson County officials said about 4 inches of snow fell in Trenton, that is one of the largest accumulations throughout West Tennessee, but officials said they want to make sure roads stay clear, that way the snow does not turn into ice overnight.

Down Highway 104 in Dyer County, people like Steve Lemons worked clearing side roads.

“Lots of roads need assistance, more than this one does, so everybody does their part and it works,” Lemons said. “We’re just trying to help out some of the neighbors and relatives and have everybody enjoy the snow rather than dread it.”

Residents said they are just trying to enjoy their time with the snow.

“A blessing that God gave to me,” Clark said. “I’ve been working seven days a week and this is my first day off so this is how I’m enjoying it.”

Emergency officials in both Gibson and Dyer counties said their biggest priority is keeping the roads as clear as possible to help minimize re-freezing overnight.
