Weather Update: 5:00 PM Sunday

Things weren’t too bad today.. Temps were in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Warmer today than we have been the past week. It’s been exactly 7 days since we last saw a 40 on the thermometer. There were only a few spots today that didn’t see that 40 degree mark. With the sunshine, today was a typical winter afternoon with temperatures around where they should be for highs.

Tonight temps stay mild. We’ll stay precipitation free going overnight tonight with only increasing clouds. Tonight temps are expecting to be about 15 degrees warmer than last night. The winds will start to pick up as we get into the day tomorrow, ahead of the cold front that will be bringing us the chance for rain.

The timing of rain, rain chances increase mainly overnight Monday into Tuesday but we could see some afternoon scattered activity ahead of the main line of showers. Temperatures won’t be too badly effected by the rain and we are expecting to return to seasonal this week. Monday afternoon highs could near that 50 degree mark.

Any remaining snow will melt from the rain when it does arrive. Low pressure system off to the west will bring warmer air into the region tomorrow ahead of the cold front. Tomorrow we stay mostly rain free through the morning. Only a very slight chance for a morning sprinkle. The majority of the rain sets up in the afternoon and even then, it’s still scattered. Once the cold front gets closer to West Tennessee, more development will occur with these rain showers. By the time we head to bed, 10 pm tomorrow, the cold front pushes in and the line of showers continues moving west to east.

By the overnight hours the rain will slowly start coming to an end areas around Savannah and Selmer may still see some rain by the time they wake up on Tuesday morning, but most of the area will be done with the rain. Tuesday afternoon things will completely come to an end although we do keep the clouds. We aren’t expecting a lot of rain from this event either with totals around 0.1″ to 0.3″ and others may not see anything.
