Maj. Michelle Mehr shares story of brutal assault as caution to officers

JACKSON, Tenn. —  The Old Hickory Rotary Club welcomed a special guest Monday to talk about the dangers of being in law enforcement.

Michelle MehrMaj. Michelle Mehr, director of professional standards with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, shared a graphic video of her being assaulted during a traffic stop almost 20 years ago.

Mehr was in a coma for six days and had to have extensive reconstructive surgery on her face. Doctors had no medical explanation for how she survived.

She shares her video to teach law enforcement that there is no such thing as a routine traffic stop.

“And no, you may not get to go home that night if something were to happen, but the whole point is getting to go home,” Mehr said. “It may be days later, weeks later, months later, but in the end if you get home, you’ve won the battle.”

Mehr says she feels her life was spared so she could share her experience and hopefully keep other officers from enduring the same thing.
