Handicapped adult found living in animal feces; woman arrested
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — A handicapped adult found living in feces leads to the arrest of another woman, according to police.
Humboldt police said they were serving a warrant for a case of alleged abuse at a home along Dungan Street.
Alex Aleal lives across the street and said he watched the arrest of Brenda Kay Bohannon. “They were putting her in the back of the cop car,” he said.
The 63-year-old woman is charged with willful physical abuse or gross negligence of an adult, according to a release from the Humboldt Police Department.
Investigators said they had to remove a 21-year-old female for her own safety because she was living in animal feces. “I don’t know what her house looks like because I’ve never been inside. All I know is she’s got multiple dogs running through the back,” Aleal said.
We reached out to residents at the home neighbors said Bohannon lives in. A man who would not identify himself answered the door and said he had no comments when asked about Bohannon.
Officers said they found animal feces in every room of the house and that the smell of urine was so strong it was hard to breathe.
More than 14 dogs were taken to Humboldt Animal Control.
Aleal says he doesn’t think Bohannon had intentions of selling the dogs. “I think she was just keeping them to herself,” he said.
Investigators did not want to elaborate but said the handicapped female has been taken to a safe place.
Bohannon is being held in lieu of a $1,500 bond.
