Police investigate suspicious death in East Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — A day after councilman Johnny Dodd’s anti-crime march, Jackson Police are investigating another possible homicide.
Early Saturday morning, Jackson police were called out to Boardwalk Cove, just off Highway 70. For now, the department is calling this an investigation into suspicious death, but aren’t saying what about this case makes it suspicious.
According to officials, around 4 a.m., officers found a unidentified black female lying near the entrance of an apartment complex. Neighbors said they didn’t even realize what had happened until they read social media.
“All I know is I woke up, and I checked my Facebook page and the fist thing I hear is someone’s been killed right down the street from my house,” said neighbor Teeco Golden.
Police are not saying how the woman died or who found her. Although things seemed to return to normal within a few hours, neighbors said crime in Jackson shouldn’t be “the new normal”.
“It’s just sad. I mean we need to come together and stop the violence,” said neighbor Amodd Cooper.
“Shooting and killing each other, it don’t make no sense,” said Smith. “Get together and talk.”
“It could have been anybody, but it hurts to know you loose a life like that,” said Golden. “Everybody needs to unite and come together and pray for the family.”
After hours of investigating, police cleared the scene around 11 a.m. The father of the victim’s five-year-old son, arrived on the scene and said this tragedy has changed his whole world.
Neither the victim’s name nor age has been released. There’s not been any information about a possible suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to call crime stoppers.
