City, county officials seek to collect overdue fine money
NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) – Officials in Natchez and Adams County are looking to collect overdue fine money.
The Natchez Democrat reports Adams County Board of Supervisors President Mike Lazarus says the county is working to see what can be done about ramping up fine collections.
Lazarus says the county, which is owed approximately $2 million in garbage collection fees, is also working with Natchez-based collections company Receivable Solutions.
The City of Natchez is dealing with a similar problem. The Natchez Board of Alderman recently delayed a vote on a new contract with a Texas collection agency to collect past due fines. The agency won’t come before the board again until this summer.
Ward 5 Alderman Mark Fortenbery says the board decided to delay the vote until after a new municipal judge is elected.
