UT Martin students headed to Super Bowl

MARTIN, Tenn. — Six students from the University of Tennessee at Martin are headed to the Super Bowl to work for the National Football League.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Twyla Pratt, a senior, said. “I’m just excited to have the opportunity to go to network and to meet whoever I can and to be able to put it on my resume I think would be awesome.”

superbowlStudents will act as personal assistants for current and former players. According to the university, their work could include shuttling players to and from events, helping with autograph signings as well as with arrivals and departures.

“It’s awesome to be able to put on my resume,” Cayce Wainscott, a senior, said.

“I mean, I’d like to meet Peyton,” Luke Brittain, a senior, said.

Dr. Dexter Davis, assistant professor of sports business, will lead the group. This is his third time taking UT Martin students to the big game.

“They’ll learn so much more than they’ll ever learn sitting in a classroom listening to me,” he said.

Davis said the students going on the trip had to apply for the opportunity. “You can’t put a price on the value of that experience and what they’re going to get out of it,” he said.

Students will get paid and be able to add the experience to their resume. “Just seeing how such a huge event like the Super Bowl runs I feel like could really help me in any type of career, especially in sports,” Pratt said.

The group leaves for California first thing Tuesday morning.

They will train for several days and work an event for fans before Sunday’s big game. They will return to Tennessee the Tuesday after the Super Bowl.
