City of Jackson sees violent weekend of crime
JPD is investigating the 4th homicide of 2016
JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson police are now investigating a fourth homicide in January.
Monday, officers deemed what was first called a “suspicious death” along Boardwalk Cove a homicide.
“She was my neighbor,” Lamonica Campbell said. “I seen her all the time. She had a big smile, she was a very friendly, lovely person. She got a little son. Like I said, they are just friendly people and what happened to her is very ridiculous and sad.”
Investigators say the victim was female, but so far have not released the circumstances of her death or manner in which she was killed.
This despite saying they’ve arrested the person responsible. However, police also have not released that person’s name.
“I remember this city being a very quiet city, a place where you could raise your kids,” said Jackson resident Quincy Douglass. “But now it’s becoming a war zone pretty much. You know people are scared to come out of their homes nowadays just to go back and forth to work.”
Sunday night, police say two gunmen stormed into the Waffle House along North Highland Ave. near Ridgecrest.
Off camera, the district manager said the gunmen pointed their weapons at customers before eventually running out.
Police quickly caught up with them but aren’t releasing their names because they’re both juveniles.
“What Jackson needs more than anything is a returning to the Lord,” said Northside Assembly Pastor Randy Carter. “Put aside our political differences and come together. Pray and seek the face of the lord for this city that we love so much.”
Prayer and action are what the community is now calling for.
“We all say that we’re advocates for making the community better,” Douglass said. “But actions speak louder than words.”
Jackson police have not said what charges the suspect in the Saturday homicide will face.
