Crockett Co. High School, Middle School closed for rest of week
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Crockett County High School and Middle School both will remain closed for the rest of the week due to damage from Tuesday’s storm system, according to Director of Schools Bobby Mullins.
The decision on whether to reopen the schools next week will be made Sunday, according to Technology Coordinator Michael Maness.
Bells and Alamo officials say their schools will reopen Thursday.
School officials reported significant damage to buildings in the area of the high school.
“We do have extensive roof damage on the vocational building and the shop areas and the classrooms that are above the shops,” Mullins said. “We have some extensive damage to one of the field houses at the football stadium.” He also said there are eight to 10 classrooms in the affected area.
Mullins said they will have crews cleaning through the night Wednesday.
“There is water damage in every one of those classrooms upstairs, so we will have some teachers that will come back in to where the water actually came in above the top of their desk,” he said.
The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down Tuesday in the county. The tornado reportedly had a path about two and a half miles long and 100 yards wide.
