Armed officer now patrols Jackson City Hall

JACKSON, Tenn.-Jackson City Hall now has an armed police officer patrolling the halls.

About three weeks ago, Mayor Jerry Gist said Jackson Police Captain Sammy Brit formerly commander of the traffic department was moved to the security position.

The mayor says the improvements also include new security cameras, which cost just less than $5,000.
Mayor Gist said the change is due to threats across the country at a number of government offices and buildings.

“It’s our job to be proactive and protect not only the citizens who are doing business in city hall, but also to provide a safe workplace for employees,” said Mayor Gist.

According to the mayor, Captain Britt’s salary will most likely eventually be taken out of city hall’s budget which will free up the police department to hire more personnel.
