National Wear Red Day raises awareness of No. 1 killer in women

JACKSON, Tenn. — Friday is National Wear Red Day for women to raise awareness against the No. 1 killer in women.

National Wear Red DayAccording to the American Heart Association, one in three women die from heart disease or stroke per year.

Hundreds in Jackson sported their red Friday at the First Friday Forum while learning more about the cause.

“It’s been one in three for quite a while now and we want to change those numbers, and hopefully as we fund the mission and we continue to have more research and get more education out there,” said Christy Futrell with the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association encourages women to make healthier life choices to help prevent heart disease such as quitting smoking, losing weight and eating healthy.
