State audit reveals McNairy Co. bookkeeping problems

McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A state audit of McNairy County has revealed that the county’s bookkeeping needs improvement.

Tennessee MoneyThe comptroller’s annual audit includes 16 findings spread across multiple county offices related to noncompliance, weaknesses and deficiencies in county government operations, according to a release from the state comptroller’s office.

Some of the issues include problems with purchasing procedures, expenditures exceeding appropriations, cash overdrafts and poor accounting.

Additionally, the highway-public works fund required material audit adjustments totaling more than $192,000 in order to correct year-end financial statements.

Comptroller auditors have included recommendations to correct the problems.
