Accused gunman charged with murder in 2014 shooting
JACKSON, Tenn. — Police have charged a man with first-degree murder in a 2014 shooting death.
Thursday authorities officially charged Corbyn Davis, 25, with first degree murder in Jackson City Court. Jackson Police Sgt. Derick Tisdale said they are excited to have him behind bars. “Sometimes in solving of cases it takes time,” Tisdale said.
Davis is accused of shooting Jamar Rogers, 24, in June 2014 on the parking lot of the Omni Center along the Highway 45 Bypass.
“One .25 caliber round bullet struck Rogers in the heart,” Jackson City Court Judge Blake Anderson said in court Thursday.
Police said Rogers had just left a local nightclub before the shooting. Court documents said witnesses stated they heard the victim’s name called out and then several gunshots.
Tisdale said the police department’s major crimes unit, gang unit, and a cold case investigator all worked together to make the arrest happen. “They will chase it until it runs dry in an effort to make sure we’ve been as thorough as possible,” he said.
Court documents said witnesses identified Davis as the shooter. “We need the community in order to solve cases,” Tisdale said.
Davis is being held without bond.
Records show Davis has a lengthy arrest record that dates back to 2008 and includes counts like evading arrest, domestic assault, plus drug and probation violations.
Davis is scheduled to return to court Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Anyone with information that can assist in the case is urged to call Jackson police at 731-425-8523 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-TIPS (8477).
