Celebrity rocker passes through West Tenn. town

SELMER, Tenn. — A Grammy winning rock star makes a pit stop in West Tennessee.

Billy Corgan Smashing PumpkinsFrontman for rock band The Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan posted a video Tuesday on Facebook as he walked along the tracks near Selmer’s business district.

“That’s kind of cool he picked Selmer,” resident Mary Moffitt said.

From Rockabilly to modern rock, the seat of McNairy County has no shortage of musicians playing through town.

But several residents said Corgan’s visit went seemingly unnoticed. “I probably walked by him and I wouldn’t have ever known,” Moffitt said.

Gerald Cheves said he doubts anyone recognized Corgan, who is seen in the video bundled up in a jacket and winter hat while snapping photos in between chatting.

“If anybody’s here in Selmer, Tennessee, come on down to the railroad tracks,” Corgan said during the video.

Chanin Alexander lives near Selmer. She said she’s a fan of the The Smashing Pumpkins, who had a string of hits during the ’90s, and would have enjoyed a chance to meet Corgan.

“That would have been nice to have known he was here,” she said.
