Jackson woman waits for life-saving transplant
JACKSON, Tenn. — Community members come together to raise money for a Jackson woman who needs a life-saving transplant.
A machine pumps oxygen for Jennifer Crouch. The 35-year-old Jackson resident was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at three months old. “Every day that God allows me to wake up I am fortunate,” she said.
Crouch only has 18 percent lung function and needs a double lung transplant. “It’s going to take at least 60 percent of my energy just to breath all day long,” Crouch said.
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association is a national charity that helps communities raise money for transplant-related expenses. Crouch’s family teamed up with the organization. They hope to raise $50,000, enough to pay for the transplant, medication and living expenses while she recovers.
“We really want her to get the lung transplant,” Barbara Tritt, a cousin, said. “She is in desperate need for it. We love her so much and we want her to stay here.”
They have donation boxes at Heavenly Ham, L & T Cakery Inc. and Carlton Animal Clinic in Jackson, plus some owners offered to donate a percentage of their profits. They are also selling Krispy Kreme Donuts until Feb. 19.
“Without my family doing this for me and my friends, this is not possible,” Crouch said.
Despite her condition, Crouch chooses to stay positive. “I believe that my faith is what keeps me inspired and keeps me moving forward,” she said.
There is no cure for cystic fibrosis, but Crouch is determined to live.
