State criminal appeals court to hear cases at Union University

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals is moving its bench to the campus of Union University for a special session.

Union University courtFor the first time, Union will host the three-judge panel that hears appeals for criminal convictions in West Tennessee.

Court will be held in the Harvey Auditorium in the Barefoot Student Union Building. The first case will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Students will get the opportunity to sit in on the cases and observe how the system works first hand. Lawyers also will answer questions from the audience at the end of each case.

“Innovation in terms of how we educate our business students, and also we want to engage them in the activities of the community,” said Dr. Greg Jordan, professor of business law and ethics. “So when I talked to the judges about this as a possibility, that fit perfectly in our framework for what we try to do.”
