Application dates approaching for JMCSS Academic Academy

JACKSON, Tenn. — Schools officials are finishing off a series of informational meetings at Northeast Middle School on the Academic Academy.

NEMS INFORMATION MEETING

The last informational meeting was scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Parents were not able to turn in student applications at the meetings, but staff said they would leave with information to help make their decision easier.

“To give them info about the curriculum we teach and what we do at our school that makes us unique from some of the other schools,” Principal Teressa Tritt said about what parents could anticipate hearing at the half-hour presentation.

Established in 2014, the Academic Academy is described as a school within Northeast Middle for gifted students and those looking for an academic challenge.

When students leave the program, they could enter high school with some credits.

The school has set aside separate days for the application process:

Saturday, Feb. 20, from 8 a.m. – noon.

Thursday, Feb. 25, from 3:30 p.m – 7 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 27, from 8 a.m.- noon.

According to a release from the Jackson-Madison County School System, for students to be considered for the academy, they must complete an application and an individual writing prompt.

Staff said the application process takes around 45 minutes.
