Gibson County football coach moves to Arkansas
After four years as head football coach, Gibson County’s Morgan Cruce is leaving Dyer for an opportunity in Arkansas.
Cruce’s next coaching stint will be with Baptist Preparatory School as a head coach.
“Great opportunity for my family and I,” Cruce said over the phone.
The Little Rock school’s atmosphere athletically and educationally was intriguing to Cruce.
“It most definitely was appealing,” Cruce continued,” but it was really an opportunity for my entire family. I have a little girl that is getting ready to begin school.”
During his tenure, Cruce helped the Pioneers snap their 47-game losing streak in 2013 against Fulton County (KY).
Telling his team the news wasn’t easy.
“Hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Cruce said. “It was extremely difficult talking to my players. I would never want them to think I betrayed them because they mean the world to me.
“Some of my fondest memories are breaking the streak and seeing excitement of the school.”
Cruce will officially begin working with Baptist Prep in June.
