Foster dog finds home in assisted living center
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — A rescue dog finds a special place to call home.
“She’s quite a character,” Janet Wicker said.
Wicker visits her husband regularly at the Humboldt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and says she’s noticed the newest resident in the community. “I was surprised the first time I saw her and found out she stays here,” Wicker said.
Jojo, a shepherd mix-breed rescue dog, has free range of the facility. “She lets people pet her, rub her,” Bruce Jones said.
“When they brought me in from the other hospital, she was the first thing I saw,” Jeneane Azavedo said.
Azavedo is recovering at the center from back surgery. “She’s the hospital dog, and I was like, ‘OK, cool. This is pretty cool,'” she said.
Residents said Jojo goes from room to room checking on her new neighbors. “She comes down to my room, jumps up on the bed, sleeps,” Jones said.
Even visitors say they’ve seen the impact the K-9 has had on the tiny community. “It seems to brighten up their day. I know it does mine when I see her,” Wicker said.
Marty Amick said it’s pretty clear Jojo already knows she’s found her forever home. “She knows she belongs here. She’s part of this place.”
