Corbyn Davis appeared in City Court for a preliminary hearing. He is accused of shooting Jamar Rogers outside a nightclub in June 2014.

One witness who took the stand Thursday said they heard Roger’s name called out before the gunshot.

It was an emotional day in court for the family of 24-year-old Rogers. The case went cold until last week when the Jackson Police Department charged Davis with first-degree murder.

“I’m glad that justice is finally being served, I really am. I thank God for that,” Roger’s aunt Tracie Sandlie said after the hearing.

The family cried out in the courtroom Thursday afternoon for justice.

“It took you a whole year to admit that you witnessed a murder a year ago. You deserve just as much time as the trigger man,” Roger’s sister Latoya Rogers said.

“I’m disgusted because I feel like everybody in that vehicle deserves a charge,” Latoya Rogers said. “I’m happy that they got somebody, but he wasn’t by himself.”

Davis is currently being held without bond. The case has been carried on to the grand jury.
