Exotic Birds swoop into Jackson
Exotic bird fair at Fairgrounds Park
JACKSON, Tenn. — This weekend people from all over came out to see the exotic birds that landed in West Tennessee.
Tammy Phillips and her family drove to Jackson all the way from Mississippi looking for a new pet.
“And as soon as we walked in the door, I heard him squawking,” said bird owner Tammy Phillips. “So went over and started holding him and now he’s mine.” 9
The Country Feather Bird Fair travels all over the country throughout the year showing off their unique birds. If birds aren’t quite your thing, there are also dogs, snakes and other exotic pets.
Although you can come to pet the animals at the exotic bird fair, these birds aren’t just for display. If you find a pet you like you can bring you’re new friend home right away.
“You can come in and pet it,” said bird fair organizer Tommy Bickerstaff. “If you like the bird you can buy it and take it home with you.”
“Its a good thing to bring out your families,” said Renee Alford. “Get out of the house, see the birds and all the exotic pets. Bring the kids out they love it.”
For kids and some adults, going to the bird fair is a learning experience.
“They see a bird they like, they can talk to the vendor that’s selling it and the vendor can tell them all about the bird,” said Bickerstaff. “How to raise it how to feed it, how to take care of it and all that.”
“Its also educational for the kids too,” said Phillips. “They get a chance to see different kinds of birds. I just think its good responsibility.”
The bird fair at Fairgrounds Park is open to everyone free of charge all weekend.
“Come try a bird show it’s a good experience,” said bird enthusiast Jacob Powell.
Sunday the exotic bird fair still be going on at Fairgrounds Park until 5 p.m. The bird fair will be back in toward the end of August.
