Experts hold program to prevent scams among senior citizens

JACKSON, Tenn. — Recent fraud alerts in the area led community leaders Thursday to educate senior citizens about scam artists.

Senior scam fraud awarenessThe educational meeting on fraud and scam prevention took place at Brookdale Jackson Oaks. Presenters covered everything from prevention to the most common scams including the low-price cruise deal, IRS tax calls and dishonest charities.

“They have worked hard for their money and their savings, and we want to make sure that they are taken care of and they are armed with all of the knowledge they need,” said Sarah Scott, business development coordinator with Brookdale Jackson Oaks.

Officials say each year seniors are taken for $15 million to $20 million by scam artists.
