Police: Rape suspect in custody after high-speed chase
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a man accused of rape has been taken into custody after leading police on a high-speed chase through Chattanooga that involved multiple crashes.
Multiple media outlets report 20-year-old Cordarius Caldwell, who was wanted on charges of aggravated rape and false imprisonment, was arrested Wednesday.
Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron says Caldwell is accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman at gunpoint earlier that day at a Nashville residence.
Police say Caldwell fled the home and stole a car after officers responded to a call about a woman screaming.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says Caldwell then led officers on a pursuit before crashing into a concrete barrier wall.
Police say during the chase, Caldwell struck at least 15 vehicles, including the patrol car of Trooper Calvin Naipo, who sustained minor injuries.
