Suspicious house fire blazes in West Jackson

Fire Department investigate a possible arson

JACKSON, Tenn. — The back of a home on 200 block of Morgan Street went up in flames after 8 o’clock Saturday night.

“We was sitting in the house, and heard all the fire trucks pull up,” said neighbor Deangelo Toliver. “We though they were just passing by. Look outside…house was blazing.”

“I’m looking outside next thing you know its just blaze fire everywhere and I’m like wow,” said neighbor Sherri Fowler.

The Jackson Fire Department says the home was vacant, but neighbors say that’s not entirely true.

“Nobody lives there but we have seen people go in and out,” said Fowler. “Then they leave and then they come back.”

Investigators said not only was no one living in the home, but the gas and electricity were disconnected at the time of the fire, which the neighbors think is suspicious.

“Out of nowhere it was just blazing,” said Toliver. “They say ain’t no power on in the house, how else could it get set on fire.”

Although no one was hurt, you can see the fire destroyed the backside of this home. Fowler says a fire this suspicious so close to her home is just one more thing that has her ready to move.

“Jackson got to do something about this,” said Fowler. “If it not this we wake up in the middle of the night we’re hearing gunshots on the next street over, and I got two small kids that I got to make sure they are safe.”

Investigators said they will continue searching for the exact cause of this fire. They suspect this house fire will be classified as an arson.

Although details of what started the blaze are still unknown, the Jackson Fire department expects to know the official cause of the house fire some time this week.
