Apparent cross burning investigated in south Mississippi
MONTICELLO, Miss. (AP) – Authorities are investigating an apparent cross burning in south Mississippi.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department notified the FBI about Thursday’s discovery of what appeared to be a small cross burning on the side of a road in the county’s unincorporated Sontag community.
The FBI said in a statement that it’s “monitoring the situation” for possible violations of federal law.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s department said a caller reported the cross’ discovery around 6 p.m. on Thursday.
