Autopsy confirms Iraq War veteran accidentally drowned

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) – Authorities have ruled that an Iraq War veteran accidentally drowned in Hancock County two months ago.

County Coroner Jim Faulk told The Sun Herald on Saturday that an autopsy confirmed 27-year-old Alex Toups accidentally drowned in a small body of water in the Lakeshore community.

Teenagers shooting guns in the area found Toups’ body in the water on Dec. 27. A friend who had been with Toups the previous night thought he had gone home.

Toups, a 2005 graduate of Hancock High School in 2005, enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school and had been stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., with the 82nd Airborne Infantry.
