Tishomingo County offers amnesty program
IUKA, Miss. (AP) – People with old, unpaid fines in Tishomingo County can avoid additional contempt of court charges by settling their accounts during March.
In an effort to clear a backlog of old fines and warrants, Sheriff John D. Daugherty tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal the Justice Court will be offering an amnesty program.
Daugherty says the program is designed to help individuals who may have found themselves in violation of a court order, because they were financially unable to pay fines.
The amnesty program will run from March 1 through April 1 and will only cover fines prior to March 1. Daugherty says people can pay outstanding fines, resume payments or create a new payment plan. By doing so, old arrest warrants for failure to pay or appear will be rescinded.
