UTM’s Howard named All-OVC
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Twymond Howard, a senior forward on the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team, was voted as an All-Ohio Valley Conference first team selection by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
Howard becomes just the fifth different Skyhawk to reach All-OVC first team status and first since Lester Hudson in 2008-09.
It also marks the second straight season that Howard has been recognized by the OVC, as the 6-6, 210-pounder was named to the league’s All-Newcomer squad in 2014-15.
It was quite a year for Howard, who validated his Preseason All-OVC selection.
The Pearl, Miss. native ranked sixth in the league in minutes played (32.8 per game), seventh in rebounding (6.9 per game) and 10th in scoring (15.1 points per game).
He increased his scoring production to 17.3 points per game in league play, ranking fifth in the OVC in that category.
Howard led the Skyhawks in scoring on 13 different occasions this season, including a career-high 29 points (in addition to 12 rebounds) against Eastern Illinois on Feb. 18.
He eclipsed the 20-point mark five times, hauled in seven double-doubles while also handing out a team-high 74 assists (2.5 per game) for UT Martin.
Howard will lead UT Martin to its third-ever OVC Tournament semifinals appearance this Friday, March 4 as the No. 2 seed Skyhawks will play either No. 3 Morehead State, No. 6 Murray State or No. 7 Eastern Illinois.
Tipoff from historic Municipal Auditorium is set for 8:30 p.m. live on ESPNU.
