1 airlifted after Benton Co. crash; charges pending

BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A passenger was airlifted to a Nashville hospital after an early Tuesday morning wreck near Big Sandy.

Benton County crashThe one-vehicle crash occurred around 1 a.m. on Lick Creek Road outside Big Sandy, according to Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher.

The driver of the vehicle lost control, went down an embankment and hit a tree, according to the sheriff.

The sheriff said all three people in the SUV appeared to be under the influence.

One of the passengers was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville while the driver and backseat passenger were transported to Henry County Medical Center.

The driver did not have a driver’s license, and deputies found drug paraphernalia and several knives in the vehicle, according to Sheriff Christopher.

Charges are pending against all three occupants.
