Brownsville thrift store benefits women in need
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — “One man’s trash is another mans treasure” has always been true when it comes to thrift store shopping. One shop in West Tennessee is transforming lives one gently used item at time.
Toward the end of 2015, Kingdom Thrift Shop opened to help fund the mission of “Amen for Women” Ministries in West Tennessee.
“Everything that we do, all the funds support programs and services,” said Bobbie Hopson, president of “Amen for Women” Ministries. “We’re not a church, so we don’t have tithes and offerings. So we have to depend on the public to support us.”
When folks come to shop, every customer leaves knowing their purchase will go toward education, helping someone find a job, and spiritual development.
“That’s one of the main reasons why I come, because we always have to be supportive of God,” Monica Jackson, a customer, said. “You take care of his business, He’ll take care of yours.”
And this is not your average thrift shop. According to customers, five days a week they are drawn to the store because of their high-quality merchandise.
“These are nice home items, clothing, all kinds of accessories and purses, and it is top quality,” said Kim Bishop with Brownsville Radio.
Just like her customers, Miss Bobbie appreciates the support of the Brownsville community.
“It’s been a real blessing for us to be here. We’ve been so well received,” Hopson said. “I don’t think I want to have it anywhere else but Brownsville.”
For those wanting to check out the shop, Kingdom Thrift Shop is open five days a week. Anyone outside the Brownsville community wanting to help advance the mission of “Amen for Women” Ministries, can find that information on the Seen on 7 section of our website.
