Crews rescuing Tennessee residents trapped by floodwaters
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A rescue crew is using an amphibious vehicle to evacuate residents of Shelby County who are trapped in their homes due to rising floodwaters.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mickey Keaton says rescuers have evacuated at least six people from a handful of homes in incorporated Shelby County that are surrounded by rising waters from the Loosahatchie River.
The National Weather Service says 3 to 10 inches of rain has fallen in West Tennessee since late Tuesday, including in Shelby County. Flood warnings are in effect for much of the region as forecasters predict 1-3 more inches of rain could fall in the area over the weekend.
