Rescue squad evacuates family by boat in Haywood Co.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — Rescue squad members helped evacuate a family by boat Friday from a flooded area near the Hatchie River just south of Brownsville.

A Brownsville-Haywood County Rescue Squad crew rescued a husband, wife and the wife’s father by boat Friday afternoon along with the family’s five dogs. The wife is five months pregnant.

The rescue took place along River Bend Road about eight miles south of Brownsville.

Floodwaters continued to rise in the area since Thursday’s rains. The family said they awoke Friday to find their home surrounded by the rising waters. Many residents had already evacuated the area.
