Crockett County High School rebuilds after tornado damage
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Construction crews repaired tornado damage Tuesday at Crockett County High School. The district hopes to get a lot accomplished this week while students are on spring break.
A crane carried new exhaust fans to the roof of the vocational building. “They were all knocked over during the tornado,” Crockett County Director of Schools Bobby Mullins said.
The school system said February’s EF-1 tornado tore part of the roof off the building. “We patched it up a couple of days after the tornado so that we could get back into classes,” Mullins said.
The district said they plan to replace the roof sometime this summer.
Workers also worked to rebuild a greenhouse damaged during the storm. The district said they also plan to repair concrete bleachers at the football stadium. “The bleachers got moved about a foot,” Mullins said.
Mullins expects repairs to cost about $400,000. “We were very fortunate that no one was hurt,” he said. “Only property was messed up.”
Mullins said they hope to have everything back to normal sometime this summer.
The school system said the storm also destroyed the roof on the old field house. The district said they are supposed to get an estimate this week on repairs and then plan to make a decision about what to do.
