TDOT strives to ease confusion for drivers with new mile markers
JACKSON, Tenn. — A new move by the Tennessee Department of Transportation aims to step up safety on West Tennessee’s busiest stretch of roadway, Interstate 40.
New mile markers have been placed every two-tenths of a mile in the median along I-40. The new additions stretch from mile marker 18 to the Tennessee River.
TDOT hopes the project makes roads safer by giving drivers and emergency personnel an exact location of their whereabouts.
“If you are not sure what direction you’re going or exactly where you are, a marker should be close enough to you to help you tell emergency responders your exact location,” said Cody Roberts, TDOT District Supervisor.
TDO said the mile marker system will eventually extend across the rest of the Volunteer State.
