Hattiesburg shelter helps 4-legged victims

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – An animal shelter in Hattiesburg has become home to some four-legged flood victims.

Southern Pines Animal Shelter is sheltering dozens of pets whose owners are out of their homes due to last week’s flooding in Mississippi.

Shelter director Ginny Sims tells The Hattiesburg American the shelter has been taking care of the pets so the owners can take care of themselves.

Meanwhile, the Humane Society of the United States has been assisting Southern Pines in moving animals awaiting adoption to shelters in other states.
