4 Rescued After Boat Accidents a Half-hour Apart
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi authorities say they had to rescue four boaters after accidents about a half-hour apart. They’re asking people to pay attention to the weather and small craft warnings.
Department of Marine Resources spokeswoman Melissa Scallan says two 15-year-olds were rescued after their catamaran overturned Saturday near Ocean Springs.
The Mississippi Press (http://bit.ly/1WACchZ) reports that a crew was still working on that rescue when the agency learned that kayakers had overturned near Long Beach.
Scallan tells the Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1pV4WYb) that a woman was treading water after her kayak sank more than a mile from shore, and a man was found clinging to a kayak three miles from the beach.
She says the teens were wearing life vests, but the adult kayakers were not.
