Leads in double slaying evasive months later
MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) – More than two months after a 64-year-old woman and her 34-year-old son were killed, McComb police say they have few clues about the deaths.
Barbara Conerly and her son?Shawn Butler were shot from close range between 5 p.m. Jan. 14 and the morning of Jan. 15.
Detectives Sid Boyte and Shannon Sullivan say they got some tips at first, but that has slowed down. They tell the Enterprise-Journal they’re frustrated that it’s taking so long to get a report about evidence in the state lab.
Conerly’s next-door neighbor, Annette Byrd, says she and others are now skittish when they see new people walking around.
Police say the two probably knew their killer, since there were not any signs of forced entry.
