Union baseball looks to continue progress over second half

JACKSON, Tenn — The Union baseball team has hit the mid-point of their season, and after going 5-0 to start their season. they’ve rattled off 14 total wins, already doubling their win total from last season.

Second year head coach, Lee Driggers said the transition for the baseball program has been a challenging one for the Bulldogs, but they feel like they’re putting down a good foundation to build on.

With 22 freshman on this year’s roster, and a handful of them seeing significant playing time, Coach Driggers said things are moving in the right direction.

Union Baseball Midseason“We’re gonna show up every time and we’re capable of winning games,” Driggers said. “Its just getting that hit at the right time or getting a good pitching performance, and we’ve just had a hard time getting the consistency on the mound that I think that you need on this level. We’re just hoping that we can find that again. I think we’re well on our way. I think it’s about a 3 to 4 year process to get us back to where we were, but we certainly have made strides towards that.”

Driggers said the team’s first goal is to make the Gulf South Conference Tournament, which means they’ll have to finish 6th in the conference, where they currently sit.

The Bulldogs get back on the field Tuesday when they host Harding University.
