Lane Dragons kick off Spring Practice
JACKSON, Tenn — With the energy on the field Tuesday afternoon, you wouldn’t know the Lane Dragons finished 3-7 last season.
And you wouldn’t know by their expectations for 2016 either.
“Oh I would say 10-0,” senior Dragons linebacker Javonte’ Kelly said. “The new coaches are buying in, and all the players buying in behind the coaches. The coaches are really showing that they’re here for the players, building on that team chemistry.
“We had a rough season and from now we’re just looking to get better,” sophomore Quarterback, MJ Reynolds said. “Everybody has the same mindset to come out here everyday and get better. The whole off+season we’ve just been focused on finishing, that’s been our motto ever since our last game. That’s what we’re working to do right now.”
Second year quarterback, M.J. Reynolds, who ran for over 1,000 yards and 6 touchdowns last year, will spend the Spring learning a new offense, something he said is a work in progress.
“His terminology on offense is a little different, but I’ve been working everyday to learn it,” Reynolds said. “I’m getting better with it everyday. Its gonna involve the running backs a little bit more and we’re just gonna look to win games.”
With plenty of returning starters on both sides of the ball, Head Coach Derrick Burroughs said they’re working to fine tune some issues that cost them games last season.
“That’s what separates the good teams from the great teams, from the bad teams is great fundamentals, and teaching and being able to win in the 4th quarter and that’s what we lacked last year, so it’s gonna be a lot of teaching this Spring.”
“We have a team full of players who are gonna buy in, who’s gonna play for the system and gonna play for the guy next to them,” Kelly said.
Lane’s spring practices will all lead up to their annual spring game that will be played April 9th.
