Community members spend Good Friday marching against crime

JACKSON, Tenn. — On Good Friday, several Hub City residents chose to spend the holiday together, taking a stand against crime.

About a dozen people gathered late Friday afternoon to march along Cloverdale Street in east Jackson.  With each step they voiced anti-crime chants.  Earlier this month along Cloverdale Street, police said a homeowner stabbed a suspect in the neck as he tried to break into his home.

March participants said they came out for this march because they believe what happens in one neighborhood affects the whole city.

“It’s about awareness,” said Pastor Jeffery Neely of Hope and Faith Ministries.  “Crime isn’t a family problem, but a community problems.  It’s all of our problems.”

The weekly marches are coordinated by Jackson City Councilman Johnny Dodd.  Next Friday’s march location has not been announced.
