Jackson City Councilman Ernest Brooks eyes house seat

JACKSON, Tenn. — Four-term Jackson City Councilman Ernest Brooks II is interested in running for the Tennessee State House of Representatives in the upcoming August 4 Democratic Primary, according to a release.

The House District 80 seat is currently held by Rep. Johnny Shaw and encompasses Madison County south of I-40 including the neighborhoods of Midtown, east Jackson, Denmark, south Jackson and all of Hardeman County.

An exploratory committee comprised of community leaders and supporters was recently formed, the release states. The committee has begun researching district demographics and voting trends, fundraising, polling and organizing camping staff in Madison and Hardeman counties.

Brooks, who represents District Three on the City Council, is a licensed attorney and has served as Vice Mayor, City Treasurer and served on several standing and ad hoc committees, according to a release.
