Local DAR chapter honors Vietnam veterans
MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The service, sacrifice and achievements of Vietnam veterans were honored Tuesday at Madison County Courthouse.
The Vietnam War Commemoration 50th Anniversary event was held at 2 p.m. on the north lawn of the courthouse. The free event was hosted by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Jackson-Madison Chapter.
“They never turned their back on our country, but when they came home part of the country turned their back on them, and we are trying to make up for that,” DAR Jackson-Madison Chapter Vice President Beth Bates said.
The Vietnam War began in 1954 and ended in 1975. Nearly 179,000 men and women from Tennessee served in the war.
