JMCSS addressing school roof leaking issues
JACKSON, Tenn.—With severe weather in our area, some schools are having to batten down the hatches to keep their doors open.
Pop Elementary students walk in line down the hallways lined with buckets and signs. The Jackson-Madison County School System said most of their schools see some leaking or flooding after rain.
“We have many of our schools that have some issue with roofs leaking and sometimes leaking around our HVAC systems,” JMCSS Marketing Specialist Ginger Carver said.”There are issues that go along with roof leaking not only with just the water affecting our equipment but it can also affect where our students can go and we want to makes sure they are safe at all times.”
North Side High School is another school dealing with the leaking issues.
“Anytime you’re having to dodge water drops and walk around buckets and garage cans with water in them that’s an issue,” Principal Jason Bridgeman said.
The principal said that two out of the four buildings on the North Side campus deal with water leakage when it rains, and 50-60 percent of those rooms have some sort of water damage, and he said that is no place for students to learn.
“We want our kids to come into school and not have to deal with water or leakage. We want them to come in and study and focus on their grades and assignments,” he said.
The school system said they are prioritizing which schools need the most immediate attention, but their goal is to completely solve the problem.
