Forest County deputy, wife plead not guilty to tax evasion
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – The Forrest County Sheriff’s Department chief deputy and his wife have pleaded not guilty to multiple federal charges for allegedly filing false tax returns and tax evasion.
Charles and Linda Bolton each face five counts of tax evasion and five counts of filing false returns. Both were given an unsecured $25,000 cash bond.
The Boltons spent about 30 minutes Thursday before Judge Michael Parker in federal court in Hattiesburg. After being processed and released, The Hattiesburg American reports the Boltons offered no comment.
Charles Bolton will remain employed by the Forrest County Sheriff’s Department, and Parker ruled he will be allowed to carry a firearm in order to perform his job responsibilities.
The charges stem from returns the couple filed between 2010 and 2014.
