Solar farm to bring jobs to McNairy County residents
McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A company is investing in a piece of land in West Tennessee, which will soon become a solar farm owned by McCarthy.
It is something McNairy County said they are looking forward to after Tennova recently shut down its hospital, leaving more than 100 people jobless.
“We thank Tennova and CHS for the investment they’ve made in this county over the years, but we’re going to move ahead. We’re going to press forward, and hopefully there are some other providers out there who are looking at us and see us as an asset in their company,” Eddie Crittendon said with McNairy County Economic Development.
County leaders said having solar farms in their area is huge and brings big interest from other industries. With all of the combined solar farms, the county said they will be producing more than 70 megawatts of solar power.
“It really tells our story when we’re looking out there for food industry companies or other companies that, in today’s world say, ‘look, we’re going to locate in a community that’s showing
responsible sustainability,” Crittendon explained.
The county will be hosting two job fairs over the next two weeks.
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 5 and 6, the job fair for McCarthy will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Then on April 14, a job fair for all industries including health will also be held. Both job fairs are at the Latta in downtown Selmer.
