Employers seek to hire in Hardeman County
BOLIVAR, Tenn. — Hardeman County residents are eager to get to work.
Eight employers set up Thursday morning inside Bolivar’s City Hall. It’s something the Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce is hoping will be beneficial.
“We’re just trying to let people know there are opportunities here, to try to make the best fit we can for the people who work and are needing good, skilled workers,” Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce Director Kandy Shackelford said.
Positions include construction jobs, maintenance work and even working in a corrections facility.
“If you go to the highways, you can see people going to Jackson, McNairy County or Shelby County for work, so we’re doing better in that regard as providing jobs, so maybe that part’s going to turn around,” Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens said.
Those who attended the event are automatically added to Tennessee’s job registry and will be notified of future opportunities if none of these works out. Turner said she’s encouraged by such a great turnout of eager employees.
“This is a small town, and it’s always based on people thinking people on welfare and things of that nature. So when I see people trying to do better for themselves, I’m very pleased with that,” Akisha Turner, who participated in the job fair, said.
